Theatre Tips: How to Make the Most of Your Experience

Be on Time. The lobby opens one hour before the show, and the theatre doors open 30 minutes before curtain. Arrive early to get settle and ready to enjoy the show!

Dress Comfortably (and a Little Special). There’s no formal dress code, but going to the theatre can be a fun occasion—so feel free to dress up a little! Bonus: bring a sweater, theatre can be chilly.

Be Mindful of Scents. Many people have allergies to perfumes, colognes, or scented lotions, so keeping it light is kind to everyone.

Use the Restroom Ahead of Time. Once the performance starts, it’s best to stay in your seat unless it’s urgent.

Handle Snacks Quietly. If you have candy, mints, or cough drops, unwrap them before the show. If you need to during the show, be quick!

Phones? Airplane Mode, Please! Screens and notifications can be distracting, so switch to airplane mode or turn them off before the show.

No Photography or Recording. It’s not allowed by law during performances.

Enjoy the Overture. The opening music is part of the show, so take a moment to listen and settle in—no talking or texting, please.

Applaud & Cheer. Clap at the end of scenes or songs, and throughout the curtain call—actors love your enthusiasm!

Keep Your Comments Positive. Everyone has opinions, but inside the theatre, it’s best to keep your reactions friendly and supportive. You never know who’s sitting nearby!

Stay Until the End. Don’t miss the final moments or curtain call… It’s part of the magic!

Meet the Cast. After most Youtheatre shows, cast members gather in the lobby in costume. Say hi, snap a photo, or give a high-five—it’s a great way to celebrate their hard work!

The Golden Rule. Remember: the performers can see and hear you, and the audience is here to enjoy the show. Treat others as you would like to be treated.
